Went for New Year’s Eve party started off very well with welcoming to the tables but was sectioned into two different areas. The front area felt very Christmassy and was great for New Year’s Eve the back area. However the lights were left on. There was no atmosphere at the back and I actually asked for the lights to be turned down. Everything was aimed for the front part. The food was I feel a very mix and mash. The starter was good and the desserts were great, but the main I didn’t understand at all as it was a very strange combination of different foods. The rooms were basic but clean and the staff were very helpful, but I wouldn’t go back for New Year.

My family and I have just had an excellent Xmas day meal here. The traditional turkey was only had by my wife, who said it was wonderful but was too much for her to finish (better too much than too little). |Not everyone wants traditional, and they catered for us as well with a selection of alternatives.|The leg of Lamb I had was beautifully soft with a rich gravy. The service was promp and Aki kept us informed of when the food would arrive.|The lovely servers Hitomi and Yasmin swept in to deliver and then retrieve the plates with efficiency. A nice touch were the little squares of cheese cake and chocolates for us after the meal. A good Xmas day experience.

Honestly don't understand all the complaints.
I stayed here a few nights back with my boyfriend, we stayed in room 204 as we're into all that paranormal stuff.
The receptionist was lovely, she told us a few stories of what others had experienced and showed us around down where the old cells are.
The room was amazing, the bed was really comfy and there was plenty of tea, coffee and even hot chocolate and biscuits in the room.
Lovely fresh towels in the bathroom and amazing smelling shampoo and body wash.
We also had a drink at the bar, the bar as well as the hotel is so beautifully, historically kept and the barman was also really friendly too.
The only downside was being woken 3 times during the night to what sounded like something heavy being dragged across a wooden floor, in the room we were in and a weird faint sound of horses, but that sort of stuff is what we were looking for.
So, for us, we really enjoyed our stay and we'll definitely be back at some point. 🙂

We had a wonderful stay at the Rose and Crown for a special birthday. The building is amazing and hundreds of years old. Although the hotel has everything you need, it feels historical and it has definitely kept its old world features and charm. We stayed in one of the four poster rooms and it was like a suite, very spacious and luxurious. The hotel was clean and well kept, the staff were helpful and courteous and made us feel like VIPs. There was no noise from other rooms and we had a very peaceful night. The breakfast was comprehensive and had everything anyone could have wanted. Though there were other guests there, the hotel has done a great job of providing a spacious and exclusive feel. In addition to this, the hotel is in an excellent position close to the city centre.

Avoid!!! This hotel does not understand gdpr responsibilities they will use your data against gdpr protocols and disclose to anyone.

Staff are very rude and demanding. They ignore information told to them and like to make out that it's a privilege to take your money and to demand more money is an even bigger honour to ask for. They will not listen to customers and and have an attitude full of the staff are right and customers are stupid.

I stayed at the Best Western Hotel for a wedding event, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience.

The bar and reception were severely understaffed. Despite the hotel knowing about the wedding, only one bartender was on duty, resulting in long waits.

Breakfast was equally chaotic, with only two servers handling the entire breakfast room. We waited over 30min for someone to take our order an hour for our food, and there were no clear instructions on how to order. Very bad

The bathroom was very clean, but the bedroom had issues. The carpet was dusty around the bed edges, and the mattress was extremely uncomfortable and outdated. I heard from other guests who shared similar complaints.

Front desk staff needs better training. My interaction with them felt unprofessional, as if I was a bother rather than a paying guest.

Overall, this best western Hotel needs to improve its management, staffing, and customer service standards.

Just enjoyed a NYE party with friends! Stayed overnight, very good, warm and cosy room! Party food, disco brilliant, just as good as last year! Will certainly do it all again next year! Rose and Crown is a lovely old characterful place to stay!
